  • Why do both Light Harmonic and Tesla OEM speakers feature a unique low impedance design? [Technical]
The low impedance design found in both Light Harmonic and Tesla OEM speakers isn't a random choice - it's a strategic design decision. In general aftermarket car speakers, you will see speakers rating at 8 Ohm to 4 Ohm usually. On the other hand, Light Harmonic and Tesla OEM speakers are designed to be lower impedance speakers, generally rated below 3 or even 2 ohms, can handle more power and provide more volume than their higher impedance counterparts. In the context of a vehicle, where background noise is a significant factor, this increased power handling and volume output are particularly beneficial. By effectively using the power from the amplifier, low impedance speakers ensure optimal performance, delivering a dynamic, high-quality audio experience even amidst road noise. Impedance, measured in ohms (Ω), is a measure of the opposition that a circuit presents to the flow of current when a voltage is applied. In audio systems, lower impedance means less resistance to the power supplied by the amplifier. Our speakers, all door woofer or subwoofer are designed at 1.2 Ohms in effective frequency or even lower, can draw more current from the amplifier and handle more power compared to higher impedance speakers. This essentially allows more energy to be converted into sound, not heat, leading to greater volume output and potentially better sound quality. In terms of transient response – the speaker's ability to respond to changes in the audio signal – lower impedance offers an advantage. This is because transient response is linked to the speaker's control over the motion of the diaphragm. More current flow, allowed by low impedance, can provide better control of the speaker diaphragm, leading to more accurate sound reproduction, especially during complex or fast-changing audio passages. Therefore, Light Harmonic's choice to employ a low impedance design aims at ensuring an optimal, high-quality audio experience that is both powerful and faithful to the original audio source. The benefits of low impedance speakers, such as those designed by Light Harmonic, lie in the realms of power handling, volume output, and transient response.

  • Why do new speakers need a break-in period? How does the break-in process work?
Q: Why do new speakers need a break-in period? A: New speakers require a break-in period much like a pair of new shoes. Initially, the mechanical components inside the speakers (such as the spider and the surround) are rigid. This limits the speaker's frequency response, impacting sound quality. The break-in period allows these parts to loosen up and become more flexible, thus enhancing the speaker's performance. Light Harmonic's speakers all performed 24 hours none-stop testing in QC department so there is 24 hours break-in already, but we suggest more. Q: How does the break-in process work? A: The break-in process is a journey of transformation for your speakers. It involves playing a variety of music at a moderate volume over a few days, allowing the speakers to gradually adapt and respond to different frequencies. Q: How long does the break-in period usually last? A: The break-in period typically lasts a few days of normal use. Although some might suggest playing the speakers at high volume for a shorter period, we recommend a more patient, moderate approach for the best results. Q: What benefits can I expect after the break-in period? A: After the break-in period, your speakers will have improved frequency response. This leads to SMOOTHER, MORE BASS, fuller, and richer sound, allowing you to fully enjoy your audio experience.
  • Does a 'best' EQ setting exist? What is the recommended process for tuning the EQ?
EQ settings are highly personalized and can depend on several factors, including your unique listening preferences, the genre of music you're playing, and your vehicle's specific acoustics. Therefore, there isn't a universal 'best' EQ setting. The aim is to craft a sound balance that is pleasing to your ears. To tune the EQ effectively, we recommend starting with a 'flat' setting, where all frequency bands are set to 0 or neutral. Listen to a diverse range of your favorite music and incrementally adjust the different frequencies as needed. For instance, if the vocals seem too sharp, consider reducing the high-mid frequencies. If the bass is overpowering, you might want to dial back the low frequencies. Remember, the ultimate goal is to create a balanced, enjoyable sound that enhances your overall listening experience. Feel free to adjust your EQ settings periodically to align with any changes in your audio preferences. Additionally, we offer a selection of finely-tuned EQ templates tailored to different music genres, serving as excellent starting points for your personalized audio experience.
